The story of how my Grandmother the Grand Duchess Marie Romanov escaped from Russia with the help of my adopted Grandfather. Unfortunately even though her brother The Tsarevich Alexsei escaped with them, he did not have the strength to complete the journey.
MESSAGE TO THE RUSSIANS: REMEMBER THE IRON THAT WAS PLACED IN THE STOVE ?
This story you are about to read is real events of the escape of my Grandmother the Grand Duchess Marie Nicholaievna Romanova and her brother The Tsarevich Alexsei Romanov as told to me by my adopted grandfather Sawo.
One day in a small village on the coast in The Lebanon, I was playing with my cousins at one of my uncles home. My uncle lived in a flat below my adopted grandfather’s home. An elder relative, who at the time I believed her to be a relative of Sawo, my adopted grandfather, knocked on my uncles front door and asked for me to go upstairs to Sawo’s. I asked if I could see him later as I was enjoying playing with my cousins. The elder relative told me that this could not wait and I was told that I must immediately go upstairs to see Sawo. Her tone of voice was serious and if you knew her, you would have known not to mess with her as she had a short fuse. Once I arrived at Sawo’s, another elder relative, who I also believed her to be my adopted grandmother relative, said to me “Sawo wants to see you, he is waiting for you in his room”.
I walked through the entrance hall and slowly down the long dark windowless corridor, all the time thinking, why did Sawo wanted to see me so urgently ? Was I in trouble ? I knocked on his door, he asked me to come in. As I entered his room, I saw Sawo standing inside by the door. I said “You called for me Sawo”, he replied “I am not your grandfather”. My thoughts went into overdrive as I was puzzled by his answer. I said to him “but you are my father’s father” he said “I am not” in my mind, I started thinking maybe my adopted grandmother Nano had an affair, so I said “but Nano is my grandmother, as she is mother of my father” he replied “she is not the mother of your father”. I was now totally confused. I said to Sawo “you will always be my Grandfather and Nano will always be my Grandmother no matter what”, he then started to tell me the story of my real family.
It all began in the Koptyaki forest, near Yekaterinburg in Russia. Sawo and his family were walking through the Koptyaki forest, pulling a small cart loaded with their luggage, making their way to another part of the station yard to continue their journey east towards China where Sawo had some business to take care of. As they were making their way along the dirt track, a girl, Marie and a boy, Alexsei both with shaved heads were running for their lives through the Koptyaki forest. They came across Sawo and his family, Marie quickly explained who she was and the situation that she and Alexsei were in and begged Sawo to help them. Sawo was a young man then, with his whole life still to live for. He hesitated at first as he did not want any trouble let alone be shot before he had a chance to live his life, but he decided to help them. They quickly unloaded the small cart, hid some of the luggage in the forest covering them with branches to make room for Marie to hide below the remaining luggage. They then hid Alexsei under the dress of one of the female family members as the small luggage cart was not large enough to hide the Marie and Alexsei. It was quite difficult to hide Alexsei as he was quite tall and had to kneel. The female relative of Sawo had difficulties walking with him under her skirt.
They could hear the soldiers who were after them. Two soldiers came running out of the Koptyaki forest like madman. One of the soldiers waving a pistol threatened to shoot Sawo and his family. One of the soldiers interrogated one of the female relative, who spoke excellent Russian as she has been living in Moscow. Thankfully the two soldiers thought that Sawo and his family were peasants from the nearby village of Koptyaki, otherwise they would have shot them on the spot, as Sawo said. The soldier with the pistol then shouted “There are whites everywhere out here, so you’d better get home before we shoot you all”. Sawo and his family immediately turned around and started to make their way back in the direction of the train station that they have just left, which was in the same direction as the village of Koptyaki. The female member who was hiding Alexsei had problems walking properly, this made one of the soldiers with the pistol suspicious. He told them to stop. Sawo’s told me he felt his heart stop. The female member explained that she was pregnant and could not walk very fast, but the soldier was still suspicious, he then told the other soldier to bayonet the luggage cart just to make sure no one was hiding in there. The soldier went up to the luggage cart and bayoneted the luggage. Marie later said to Sawo that she could never forget how that rusty bayonet missed her eye by whisker. The two soldiers then let them go on their way. They got away with it as Sawo said.
Once they got back to the station Sawo made his way to the station master and explained the situation they were in. The station master led them to his office to hide them behind some boxes while he made arrangements for them to flee. In the station master office, already hiding behind boxes, was the Tsar Nicholas II, Tsarina Alexandra, their daughters Olga, Tatiana, Anastasia, the manservant Trupp and Dr. Yevgeney Sergeevich Botkin. They kissed and hugged as the reunion proved to be very emotional. As the station master was busy arranging their tickets, Sawo and his family shaved their heads like Marie and Alexsei, they disguised themselves as a family of monks in preparation of their escape from Russia. At one point a man opened the door to the station master office and accidently knocked some of the boxes over. This man saw with his own eyes the Tsar and his family hiding behind the boxes. Marie and Alexsei wanted to flee with their father, mother and sisters but the Tsar said it was divine providence how Marie and Alexsei were saved from certain death by Sawo and his family and so the Tsar decided it was best for Marie and Alexsei to continue with their escape with Sawo. The station master arranged train tickets for Marie, Alexsei, Sawo and family to Moscow, he telegraphed the station master in Moscow to alert him of their arrival so he can arrange tickets for them to another destination.
Sawo told me with a tear in his eye, the separation from their family was deeply emotional. Tears filled their eyes when it was time for the Tsar, his family and their entourage to leave Marie and Alexsei. Hugging, kissing, crying, Marie had to be torn from her father and mother. Marie knew she would never see them again.
The Tsar and his family climbed aboard the animal wagon of the train. The manservant Trupp struggled to climb on board as he was quite old. By this time the Red soldiers who where staying close to the train station had been alerted of the escape and were already on the station platform. The Tsar with great difficulties was helping Dr. Yevgeney Sergeevich Botkin onto the train, his strength was failing him. A Red soldiers spotted them and alerted his comrades. Sawo witnessed all this spying through the window in the station master’s office. Marie asked Sawo if they made it, he told her they did which was a lie. Marie had calmed down by then, she was calm and collected, a completely different person. Marie spoke with Alexsei and said he is now the most important person in the family and he must be brave and she will protect him. They were rushed on the train, the same train that Sawo and his family were traveling on from Moscow.
The train was heading to China. They planed on intercepting the Train to Moscow along the way as it was still a long way off and Red Soldiers were everywhere. On the train to China Marie was recognised by a lady who insisted that Marie was the Duchess Marie Nicholaievna, the lady was a big fan of the Duchess Marie Nicholaievna and would not hush up. Sawo spoke with the conductor and with his help they traveled in the luggage carriage. Along the way they changed trains and arrived in Moscow.
Once they arrived in Moscow the station was full of soldiers. Sawo left Marie and Alexsei on their own for a brief period while he looked for the station master to get their tickets for their next destination. While he was occupied with the station master, Marie was raped by a soldier. When Sawo returned, they tried without success to find the soldier who raped Marie. Unfortunately they had to leave Moscow and Russia and there was very little time to get on the train to their next destination.
The train from Moscow passed through Tula, Orel, Bielgorod, Ekaterinoslav, Nikolaiev, Odessa, Akerman and finally reached their destination at Ismail as I remember. As the train tarvelled through Odessa before the train headed inland, Sawo told me the view of the sea reminded him of the Lebanon and he had a premonition or vision that he will live in the Lebanon. They disembarked at Ismail and had to make the rest of their journey on foot. From here on the journey became much harder as they had no money or food and had to beg for everything. At one point they could hear the German artillery on the road to Rumania. Unfortunately even though her brother The Tsarevich Alexsei escaped with them, he could not walk properly and his legs swelled up during the long train journey. He simply did not have the strength to complete the journey. He is buried about ten to fifteen metres from a road sign by a road junction. Sawo could not remember exactly where even though I pushed him quite hard to remember. He said to me that he is nearly sure AlexseiAlexsei is buried in Russia near the border with Rumania, to which I said, Thank God he is buried in Russia.
They crossed the border into Rumania and made their way on foot. Sawo wanted to avoid the Transylvanian Alps and traveled towards Belgrade in Serbia where they hoped to catch a train to their final destination. Along the way Marie wanted to visit King Carol I of Rumania at Peles Castle in the Carpathian Mountains, near Sinaia, in Prahova County, thinking that he could help them. Sawo was reluctant to divert from their intended route as it was a long detour and they would have to go over the Carpathian Mountains to reach their final destination.
Once they arrived at Peles Castle they were greeted by King Carol I of Rumania, unfortunately he could not help them as he had just recently paid his workers who were building Peles Castle. King Carol I of Rumania asked Sawo if he would take with him his illegitimate Daughter, my adopted Grandmother Marie whose mother was a Gypsy Princess who worked at Peles Castle as he feared the Germans were getting closer and would be looking for them. Sawo been the Gentleman that he was accepted this heavy burden. They left Peles Castle and continued their journey to Vienna in Austria.
It was a very hard and long journey through the Carpathian Mountains, mountain after mountain they crossed, empty roads and no one to see, no money, no food except what they could scrape from the forests along the way. Sawo's Samovar and their will to survive kept them alive.
The journey took many many months. Marie had a baby boy in the snow by the side of the road. Unfortunately as they were virtually dying from hunger and on the verge of starvation, Marie could not feed the baby boy. The baby boy was not able to survive long and is buried somewhere in the forest. May his soul rest in peace.
Just before they reached their destination, a villager from the local village took pity on them and gave them a lift on his cart to the Palais Saxe-Coburg in Vienna Austria. Once they arrived at the Palais Saxe-Coburg they were greeted and given rooms for them to stay in as long as they wanted and Sawo was given the title of Baron. That was it as far as Marie, Sawo told me.
At the Palais Saxe-Coburg they lived in luxury and were well cared for until . . . The rest of the story gets really ugly, so don't say I didn't warn you.
Marie and Prince Leopold Clement fall in love over the coming months. Sawo told me he once observed from his corner room in which he resided, Marie and Prince Leopold Clement two young people in Love in intimate conversation in the Garden of the Palais Saxe-Coburg. Marie had matured into a Beautiful Fine Woman as her hair grew back neck length Jet Black.
PRINZ LEOPOLD CLEMENT PHILIPP AUGUST MARIA VON SAXE-COBURG UND KOHARY
Marie became pregnant with Prince Leopold Clement's child. At that time Prince Leopold Clement had a Mistress. It is alleged she was a prostitute. Prince Leopold Clement broke up with his Mistress. He was in Love with Marie and wished to marry her. His Mistress became very jealous and revengeful as she had designs of her own. She organised for acid to be thrown in his face. Prince Leopold Clement died during an operation to rectify and ease his suffering from having acid thrown in his face not on 27 April 1916 as published in history books but many months later.
Marie gave birth to My Father William Shayne at the Palais Saxe-Coburg Vienna Austria on 13 of July 1916 and was Babtised Russian Orthodox by her bedside at the Palais Saxe-Coburg before she crossed to the other side a few days later. Empress Zita of Austria was present and even wanted to be his Godmother.
WILLIAM SHAYNE : MY FATHER
As well as the tragic events detailed above a very serious crime was committed at the Palais Saxe-Coburg by Bertie and his brother Edward. My adopted Grandmother Nano Daughter of King Carol I of Rumania and a Gypsy Princess from a Prominent Vampirus Blood Line of Transylvania was RAPED at the Palais Saxe-Coburg by Bertie and Edward while they were on a visit to negotiate a truce between England and Austria during the Great War.
My adopted Grandmother Nano and Marie were without exception the Most Beautiful Girls at Palais Saxe-Coburg, especially Nano. Not one girl even came close to her Beauty, not even Marie's Beauty.
Most of the other Royal females were big nosed, unattractive, well used whores.
Sawo immediately challenged Bertie to a duel as Bertie was the Main Perpetrator of this crime. But Bertie been a coward, he let Protocol get in the way rather than face his Certain Death like a Man which he never was. It is said when Bertie first noticed my adopted Grandmother Nano whose first name is Marie, he became obsessed with her Beauty and could think of nothing else. It is also said the night Bertie RAPED Marie "he was possessed by the Devil" excuses from lily-livered Royals if you ask me. To hide their shame King George V by Royal proclamation in 1917 changed the name of the British branch of the German House of Saxe-Coburg und Gotha to House of Windsor. When Bertie ascended the throne, the House of Windsor used the name George rather than his first name Albert. But that's another story which will come out in due time in THE LEHZEN DIARIES.
More to follow . . .
I will tell it to you as it is
I do not hide behind pseudo-names
